Divorce, Maintenance, Custody & Division of Assets

  • Maintenance orders secured after 8-day trial - Acted for the Wife under section 69 of the Women’s Charter, seeking maintenance for two children after the Husband ceased all support. After an eight-day trial, successfully proved the Husband’s neglect and obtained an order for monthly maintenance of $3,300 (slightly above the sum originally sought), together with a costs order in her favour.
  • Maintenance orders following cross-examination of inconsistent evidence - Acted for the Wife under section 69 of the Women’s Charter against a self-employed Husband who claimed financial incapacity. Through detailed cross-examination, exposed contradictions in his evidence, leading the Court to accept the Wife’s case and order monthly maintenance for both children.
  • Cross-border access and relocation dispute – Assisted lead counsel in representing the Father in a cross-border access case. The Mother, initially permitted to relocate the child temporarily to Singapore, later sought to remain permanently. The team successfully upheld the foreign court’s order and secured enhanced access rights for the Father, ensuring continuity of care and preserving the parent-child relationship.
  • Cross-border child-abduction and Hague Convention advisory - Advised a Father and overseas counsel on a potential wrongful-removal case under the Hague Convention on International Child Abduction. Prepared a legal opinion on Singapore’s implementation of the International Child Abduction Act 2010, covering habitual residence, custody rights, and return procedures.
  • Return of child to Mother’s care - Acted for the Mother in a contested custody dispute involving a very young child wrongfully retained by the Father. Obtained interim orders compelling the return of the child to the Mother’s care and negotiated structured access terms safeguarding the child’s welfare and stability.
  • High-net-worth divorce with successful mediated outcome - Acted for the Wife in a high-value divorce involving declared assets exceeding $60 million, with complex ownership structures across multiple jurisdictions. Coordinated with forensic accountants to trace undisclosed holdings and achieved a favourable global settlement at mediation, avoiding lengthy litigation.
  • Resolution of multi-proceeding dispute - Acted for the Wife in a high-conflict divorce with concurrent proceedings, including protection-order applications and civil claims. Despite multiple actions initiated by the Husband, successfully achieved a negotiated resolution, including mutual withdrawal of interim orders and settlement of related suits.
  • Majority asset share and liberal access for Husband in Syariah divorce - Acted for the Husband in a Syariah divorce involving two children and matrimonial assets including real property and CPF balances. The Court accepted his substantial financial contributions, awarding him a majority share of the assets and granting joint custody with liberal overnight access. The Wife’s appeal was dismissed with costs.

Reported Cases

  • GS v GT [2023] SGSYC 12 - Acted for the Wife in a Syariah divorce involving substantial assets after a long marriage. Successfully argued for a 70 % indirect-contribution ratio, resulting in an overall division of roughly 60 % in her favour. A trust property for the parties’ child was excluded from division pursuant to [2022] SGHC 186.
  • VDP v VDQ [2019] SGFC 140; DCA 111/2019 - Acted for the Husband in a protracted divorce involving significant assets and two children, one with special needs. Successfully obtained joint care and control and increased access for the Husband. The Court ordered an asset division of 53:47 in favour of the Wife, who earned substantially more. On appeal, the division was largely upheld, with only a minor adjustment to indirect-contribution ratios and maintenance apportionment.

Civil & Commercial Litigation

  • [2022] SGHC 186 - Trust over condominium upheld – Part of the defence team in a High Court suit to set aside a trust over real property. The Court found the trust bona fide and dismissed the Plaintiff’s claims in full.
  • [2025] SGHC 63 – Business-loan claim dismissed - Assisted in defending two professionals sued over an alleged $990,000 interest-free loan. After an eleven-day trial, the Court rejected the Plaintiff’s account as unreliable and dismissed the claim entirely, preserving the Defendants’ reputations.
  • Preservation of client’s rights to joint accounts amid estate claims - Assisted in a high-value estate dispute concerning joint accounts exceeding US $75 million. Supported lead counsel in achieving an out-of-court settlement based on established common-law principles governing declared beneficial interests.
