Heeqmah graduated from the University of Birmingham, UK with a Second-Upper in Bachelor of Laws and was called to the Singapore bar in May 2019.

With extensive experience in contentious commercial litigation disputes, Heeqmah has represented clients in all levels of Singapore courts and in a broad spectrum of commercial conflicts, including contract disputes, corporate governance issues, and employment disputes. 
 
Heeqmah began her legal stint in the criminal department of a firm as a trainee and therefore had also amassed experience defending accused persons for both white collar as well as blue collar crimes. Heeqmah has worked on an array of cases, including divorce (both in the Family Justice Courts as well as in the Syariah Court), construction disputes, bankruptcy matters, and shareholder disputes. Within a year of getting called to the Bar, Heeqmah acted as 1st chair in a civil trial. She has since led trial for numerous matters. 

Heeqmah has also worked in an international legal setting in Dubai where she gained understanding and experience in arbitration, mainly in construction disputes, as well as in corporate work, where she worked under the guidance of a Queen’s Counsel and several legal practitioners from different jurisdictions.

Presently, she is also a volunteer at the Legal Aid Bureau and Criminal Legal Aid Scheme.

Criminal - Disposal Inquiry

  • 1st chaired a 3-way disposal inquiry. Conducted cross-examination of witnesses and claimants.
  • Successfully attained favourable outcome for client, a dormant company, in the disposal inquiry.

Criminal Matter

  • PP v ZYV
  • Made substantive submission and successfully argued for Mandatory Treatment Order for client
  • Client was charged under section 453(1)(a) of Penal Code for being armed with parang, Section 426 Penal Code for committing mischief by bending licence plate of a van with intent to cause damage, section 506 Penal Code for committing criminal intimidation by threatening victim with injury to reputation, and contravening section 7(1) POHA.
