IS JANUARY THE BUSIEST MONTH FOR SINGAPORE DIVORCE LAWYERS?

Why is there a spike in divorce enquiries once the festive period ends?

 .

The Christmas and New Year holidays are over.  Chinese New Year is almost over.  Here at PKWA Family Law, we’ve already received a spike in enquiries for divorce compared to the preceding month.

 .

Why do more people consult divorce lawyers or decide to file for divorce once the festive period ends?

 .

Most people who are contemplating divorce may decide to act once the festive season ends for several reasons:

 .

  1. They do not want to “rock the boat” during the festive season, especially if there are young children involved.

     .

  2. They may want to have one “last” family festive gathering together.

     .

  3. Something major happened during the festive season which convinces the couple that divorce is the only option. What was supposed to be a happy festive occasion did not turn out happy.

     .

  4. Couples decide that this is the right time for new beginnings.

     .

  5. The children are back at school.

     .

  6. Money problems resurface under the added pressure and expense that the festive holidays bring.

     .

Whilst early legal advice is important if you are considering divorce, we at PKWA Law also want to ensure that potential new clients take the time to reflect and ensure that this is what they really want.

 .

If you have decided that divorce is what you want, it is best to consider doing it amicably with your spouse.

 .

In Singapore, if your divorce is mutual and uncontested, it takes only one month to obtain Interim Judgment and another 3 months after that to obtain Final Judgment.  You do not have to attend court.

 .

The fees for an Uncontested Divorce is significantly lower than if the divorce is contested.  At PKWA Law, our fees are $1,500 if there are no ancillary matters and $2,500 if there are ancillary issues.  Our fees are below:
